PATRON - PETER JAMES

We are absolutely delighted to announce that local author Peter James has very kindly agreed to be our patron.

International best-selling crime thriller novelist Peter and his wife Lara came to the kennels just before Christmas to see who we were, and find out more about what we do for retired greyhounds.
The weather had turned against us, and it was the most horrible conditions up at the kennels, but it didn't dampen our excitement.  But there really was no escaping the rain and wind for photos – So on a better day, Peter and Lara will come back and we’ll get some more pictures.
Peter and Lara had a look round the kennels, and really enjoyed meeting all our kennel hounds who we had told to be on their best behaviour.
Peter was recently voted The Best Crime & Thriller Author of All Time in a poll by W H Smith, winning the crown by a landslide. Peter has won multiple awards for his work and had many of his books adapted for TV and stage – His books regularly top the best seller lists.
Our kennel supervisor Caz Sallis
is a big fan of his writing, and staff member Laura-Kate Zakery was really excited because Peter signed her book for her Mum.
We are truly thrilled that such a well respected local author has become our patron:-

Peter is the patron of a few local charities, and we are delighted that we will be his first animal one.

FIRE ALARM

We recently had a visit from Wendy Gillard the manager at Pets At Home in Hove for our annual partnership visit.
We were delighted to show Wendy around the kennels, and she really enjoyed meeting our kennel dogs, chatting with our staff, and seeing the work which we do for these lovely hounds.
Some paperwork needed to be completed, and we were delighted to advise that we could now put a big fat tick in the box for having a fire alarm - We paid for this alarm from the funds from the Christmas Support Adoption For Pets fundraiser, so it was really great to have completed another project at the kennels directly down to the funds from these campaigns.
Many thanks to local firm B-9 Fire Protection who installed the alarm for us.

EXTERNAL BARN REPAIRS

Our kennels are built inside the frame of a barn, and we needed to do some urgent repairs to the timber frontage of the external barn, and we are absolutely delighted to announce that we are looking all smart again.

We would like to thank Chandlers Building Supplies who provided the timber we needed at a vastly reduced price, and the work has been paid for by the money we raised at the Amex Football Stadium collection.

So most importantly a massive thankyou to the twenty plus strong team of volunteers and the eleven hounds who stood in the rain at the stadium collecting that horribly wet day – It was a huge team effort.

Also thanks to Chris and Jayne Osman who got the team and the hounds to the stadium on their Routemaster bus.

The repairs had become a major priority, and we are thrilled that we were able to complete this project before the Winter set in and the bad weather arrived.

Max & Maisie jpg We are based in the beautiful countryside of Twineham, West Sussex. The new kennels that we occupy were purpose built by us in March 2005. We gained financial backing from the national RGT and Corals Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium, both of which we are extremely grateful to, as without them it would never have happened. The kennels can hold 32 dogs for homing, but realistically we have about 29 at any one time. We have two outside fields that the dogs are continually turned out in throughout the course of the day. We also have some reliable and trusted dog walkers who take the dogs out along local bridleways. The dogs are generally housed in pairs for company, if we have enough dogs we will always do this.   read more.....
